Jari sitting very determined in his duty as an umpire. Jani performing Moon-Moo in the open division. It is with great sadness that the ITF inform you all of the tragic death of our President Grand Master TrânTriêu Quân, 9th Degree Black Belt, following the recent earthquake in Haiti. We have just received information from the Trân family regarding the discovery of Grand Master Trân from the rubble of the Hotel Montana in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. His body was found under several tons of debris. His death was confirmed by an official of the Embassy of Canada in Haiti. His identity was confirmed by the Disaster Victim Identification assessment team working in Haiti with the Consular Affairs Bureau of Foreign Affairs Canada. His body will be repatriated to Canada on Sunday, February 14. Our thoughts go to the Trân family. We wish to extend our most sincere condolences to them. Speaking from Argentina, Senior Vice-President Grand Master Pablo Trajtenberg stated: “We are so sorry to hear about Grand Master Trân’s death. We are still in shock. ITF and Taekwon-Do have lost a very strong and devoted leader, a great defender of our art in the tradition of our Founder, General Choi Hong Hi. He will remain forever a model that will inspire us all. We wish to extend our deepest sympathies to Grand Master Trân’s dear wife, Mrs. Nguyen Thi My; his children, Joliette, Cécilia and Nicolas; his son-in-law, François Beaudin; his grandchildren, Jasmine and Sandrine; his brothers, Trân Triêu Cung and Trân Triêu Lân; and all the Trân and Nguyen extended families. The fact that Grand Master Trân lost his life in a country such as Haiti is meaningful because he strongly believed in the contribution of Taekwon-Do to the building of strong citizenship qualities in developing countries. He had set time aside to meet with a group of Taekwon-Do students during his stay in Port-au-Prince. We already miss him.” All Taekwon-Do practitioners from around the world are kindly invited to write memories of Grand Master Trân or words of sympathy to the Trân family on the following ITF web page: http://www.itfnz.org.nz/commemorative/grand-master-tran-condolence.html. Grand Master Trân was President of the ITF since 2003. He had been re-elected to serve for a second term in 2007. The United Kingdom Tae Kwon-do Association have announced that they are changing their ‘official’ badge and will release a new dobok design. Fair enough you would think. However, it’s not as simple as that. According to reports, dobok supplier has been left out of pocket as he believed he had the sole right to distribute UKTA doboks of the ‘old’ design. After some to-ing and fro-ing between Tony Williams and Master Prewett it appears that peace has broken out. In his his latest mail Williams says. “ 1). UKTA BADGE. Master Prewett advised me that currently he is only responsible for the Head Office and Accountancy staff. He is not part of the “Management” and he had no part in the decision to change the UKTA badge. In fact Master Prewett never wanted the badge to be changed and he therefore wanted to continue discussions with me. Had this happened I think that we would have definitely reached an agreement so that there would have never been any need for the UKTA to lose 42 years of history when the badge was changed. Unfortunately the “Management” instructed Master Prewett not to discuss this matter with me.
2). FINANCES. I worked very closely with Master Prewett for many years and we have always had great respect for each other. In regard to the unpleasant thing that are currently being said about me Master Prewett has confirmed that he has also heard these but that he has never believed them and has most definitely never said them himself.
Like me Master Prewett is someone who place a high value on his reputation and good name. I therefore wish to apologise to him as I now know that he was not the person responsible for the comments that were made about me at the BTC meeting.”
